According to the European Status Report on Road Safety (WHO Europe, 2009) Ukraine has the fifth highest mortality rate from road traffic injuries per 100 000 population in the WHO European Region. In 2007, 10,000 Ukrainian citizens lost their lives on the countries roads.
After evaluating the scale and importance of the problem, Ukrainian Insurance House has initiated the launch of unique social project – All-Ukrainian Public Organization “Ukrainian Road Safety Association”.
This All-Ukrainian Public Organization “Ukrainian Road Safety Association” is non-profitable, non-governmental organization, founded on January 17, 2008 in order to decrease the level of car accidents deaths and injuries in Ukraine.
The main tasks of the Association to:
• provide support in uniting efforts of governmental, public, commercial sectors and mass media regarding road safety issues;
• prevent of unlawful behavior of road users;
• improve system for drivers’ training;
• raise level of culture of road users (drivers as well as pedestrians).
The main directions of work of the Association:
• cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Health, State Automobile Inspection, Ministry of Emergency Situations, Kiev City Administration;
• cooperation with international organizations: World Bank, UN Economic Commission for Europe, Global Road Safety Partnership, World Health Organization;
• brining into Ukraine international experts for providing technical support in implementation of road safety projects;
• organization of Inter-Parliamentary Meeting on Road Safety Issues;
• organization of global conference for driving instructors SAFEX 2012;
• participation in development of laws, rules and standards on road safety issues on national and international levels.
